Wow , what a day!

      I hope everyone was able to find what they were looking for at the KW Knitters fair.  I know I was inspired by all the beautiful fibres and patterns out there.  I want to extend a huge thankyou to the Yarn Indulgences team of Karyn, Wendy, Carrie and Sharron.  Without your help the day would not have been possible!

     Of course, thanks to all the customers who visited our booth.  We hope to see you all again next year, and would love to see you  in the shop.  Drop in and give us your comments about the fair!

"LACE SCARF" - Wendy











This beautiful scarf was knit by Wendy. As her first large "lace" project she is working a large leaf pattern and chose Handmaiden Seasilk in bright pink.
　
Wendy knit two separate pieces to create this beautiful scarf and is in the process of grafting the two pieces together. She mentioned she used a winder for the yarn and found it saved her almost an hour and wound perfectly.

"ROSIE" - Shelly Falla



I bought a plumand purple sock kit and a skein of alpaca yarn in chocolate from Alpaca Rosie. Thought you might like to see what I made out of it. This is a slightly modified toy pattern of a cat by Jean Greenhowe. The sweater she's wearing is made out of some leftoverself-striping sock yarn. Of course, I had to name her, Rosie. I still have more than half of the alpaca yarn left so I think I will make a thin scarf out of it using the tilting block pattern that came with the sock yarn pattern. I have one sock done and the next started. Happy Knitting!

Introduction to Knitting in the Round Class - June 6th

Take your knitting in another direction! This workshop introduces the mechanics of knitting in the round on a set of double pointed needles. In addition, we’ll explain how to read patterns and charts written for knitting in the round. We will knit a reusable cup sleeve that’s both finger and environment friendly.

Time: 1:30 - 3:30
Materials needed: Classic Elite Yarns Pebbles (75% cotton, 25% acrylic; 50g; 110 yds) 1 ball.
Set of 4 or 5 double pointed needles size 3.5 mm (US 4) or size needed to achieve tension of 5 sts = 1 inch in garter stitch.
Skills needed: You need to know how to cast on, knit, purl and cast off.

    I can`t believe it but I have been bitten by the spinning bug!   Laurie Blaikie brought in some of her custom batts and the colours and the feel just blew me away.   Carded batts by Laurie are now available for sale at the store(unless I have stashed them away for myself!)  Laurie will also be in the store Friday, May 1st to do a small demonstration.  If anyone else is interested, please pop in.

Introducing the first yarn in the Louet Signature Series - PACO VICUNAS

This unique and limited yarn is made of 15% Paco Vicunas, 15% Sea Cell and 70% Optim.

This wonderful yarn is a collaboration between Louet North America, Switzerland Farm in Colorado and Fibre Isle spinning mill in Prince Edward Island.

Sea Cell is a cellulose fiber made of Sea Weed. Optim is a fine wool fiber whose individual fibers have been stretched to make it finer, thus softer Paco Vicunas is a special alpaca that exhibits many of the phenotype traits of its ancestor to Vicuna. The Vicuna's fiber is the finest fiber in the world. The Sea Cell and Paco Vicunas are natural in colour and the Optim is hand dyed.

This will be a limited production run and only limited quantities can be ordered. Yarn Indulgences is excited to carry this new yarn in 7 colors plus cream, but supplies are limited. If you are interested in pre-orders, please contact us at the store for price and availibility.

I must admit I am feeling a little shell shocked or jet lagged or something but it was all worth it. CONSTRUCTION!

Hi everyone: It must be summer. There is construction going on everywhere. Which brings me to some advice for those trying to enter the market from street level. There is some work being done on the piazza and some days the main doors are blocked and some days they are not. So to make things easier, I would advise using the parking garage off Cedar St. There are two free hours of parking and you just take the elevator up to the G Level (ground). I am sure you will see me!

Fibre-Isle Yarns-100% Bison

I am so happy to introduce this company from Prince Edward Island. They provide us with 100% bison in a lace weight and a double knitting weight, as well as the Niji line that is a wonderful mix of bamboo, cashmere and bison in a lace weight. The colours just shimmer. Patterns for wrist warmers and a shawl are available but they work to any lace weight pattern. Come and be amazed at the softness.

Swiss Mountain Silk Cotton from Hand Maiden

This hand dyed silk cotton is amazing to work with. The large colour range makes it difficult to choose, but this gives us the opportunity to do more than one project in this wonderful yarn. A scarf pattern has been provided with each skein but it also works to any pattern at 21sts. to 4 inches on 4mm. Imagine the possibilities!

Seasilk has arrived.

Now we have to decide which colour to choose to knit with first!
With just one skein you can knit a scrumptious scarf or a shawl with two skeins. Perfect for that summer wedding. Hand Maiden has also designed a sleeveless tank top using just 2 skeins also. The silk is so soft to work with and using 4mm needles it works up quickly too.

Silk and Seacell Scarves or Shawl

This is just a sample of one of our newest yarns to arrive. This silk and seacell is from Hand Maiden a division of Fleece Artist in Nova Scotia. We are working very hard at bringing in local and Canadian yarns! Definetely not a problem with this company. Their yarns are all hand-dyed in in various different colourways. This silk is from their subtle colourways selection and the colours are breathtakingly beautiful. Seacell is actually a product from seaweed and has particular qualities that the yarn world is just discovering. Come see the colours!

NEW BABY IS COMING!

Are you looking for a cute baby sweater to knit for your best friend`s baby? This little crossover style is easy and available for little girls with a picot edge to add some fine detail. The yarn we have chosen is Gems Merino 100% wool. This gives comfort of a wool yet machine washable and dryable. There are lots of colours to choose from or choose cotton or bamboo and make it even more unique.

LIFE`S EMBARASSING MOMENTS!

I don`t usually mix business and family, but this time I just had to share... My 3 year old is at the new babysitter`s house( a wonderful woman). The stomach flu is going around and he started complaining of a stomach ache. She got him to lay down, sponged him down and tried to make him feel comfortable. She wondered what I might have done for him, so she asked him...out of the mouths of babes... His response....she knits!!! Oops! OK. I confess , I do spend alot of time knitting!! I look at it as a skill I am teaching for my children.... to turn to knitting in times of stress and the need for relaxation....... so know back to my knitting!!! p.s. my little guy is feeling fine now..

So Fun to Knit!

This apple green dress was so fun to knit. You start at the neck and work the neck and sleeve borders in at the same time as the rest of the body...which means that when you are finished..you are truly finished...The body of the dress is done on a circular needle so there are no seams to sew up, no armhole or neck borders to finish...A pleasure to knit... We chose a colour perfect for spring to wear over a blouse or t-shirt and can do double duty in the summer on its own... For the size 4 the pattern requires 3 -100g skeins. We used 100% merino gems d.k from Louet but you could easily substitute a linen or a cotton as well.. The possibilities are endless!

We are now carrying Rowan`s Purelife Organic cotton collection. Why organic? This eco-responsible yarn uses fully certified organic cotton which keeps nature pure and life good for the farmers who make their living from the earth- each batch of cotton can be traced back to the certified farms in India where the cotton has been grown.
How does this benefit the farmer? Farmers get a fairprice for the cotton which helps them increase their incomes and reduce their debts.

What about the environment? Rowan`s organic cotton is grown in an environmentally and socially responsible way without the use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers- they are using organic plant dyes which produce no toxic effluent.

Introducing Euroflax 100% wet spun linen from Louet North America. Linen sweaters feel cool in the summer, due to its breathing properties. They are wonderful to wear and are machine washable and dryable. With wear, it will become very soft with a beautiful lustrous silky effect. There are 6 knitted worsted weight colours to choose from and 10 in the D.K. weight.

Sleeveless, short sleeve and long sleeve styles available as well as shawls and skirts! You will be set for spring in this yarn!

New Baby Yarns

A new line of baby yarn from Louet North America has just arrived. Gems Baby is a 100% wool, machine washable and dryable yarn that will please both mom and baby. A strand of white has been spun with the colours to make a little bit different than your usual baby yarn. There are lots of wonderful colours and patterns to choose from.

Where it all starts!

Yesterday was a perfect day for a trip to Shepherd`s Watch Farm in Arthur. Linda and Carol are very proud of their flock and welcome farm tours. They are right in the middle of lambing so we had the privilege of seeing over 100 newborn lambs. Amazing! I look forward to going back to see the shearing, the next step in the process of producing wool.

Cuddly Warm Alpaca Ear Flap Hat

This warm and cuddly hat will chase away those winter blues! Just small amounts of the secondary colours are needed so we`ve prepared kits to make it easier for you to purchase the right quantity. Several colours to chose from, available in men`s and women`s sizing. Knit a pair of mitts and you have a wonderful alpaca set to get you through our Canadian winters!

Thrumming

If you have ever complained about cold hands you might want to consider these mitts. By knitting with the thrums of roving you immediately add a lining of warmth. 3or 4 strands of 3 inch pieces of roving are used so it`s fun to watch the mitt grow! Lots of colors to chose from too.

More Alpaca Projects

We are having lots of fun working with the 100% alpaca from Northern Lights Farm. Our latest project is a man`s watchcap, but could easily be for women as well. Make it a little longer and you have a regular toque for adults. It is so soft and light, you definetely won`t have problems wearing this hat... You need just over half a skein of alpaca to do the hat. Come visit us at the market for your free pattern....

Summer is coming!

As we are watching the snow fall it is hard to believe it is time to be thinking about summer yarns. We would love to be knitting winter snugglies but summer yarn orders need to be organized now. Of course, this also means knitting up samples in the new yarns.
we have decided on a 100% wet spun linen in a D.K. weight and a worsted weight. There will be 10 colors in the D.K and 3 for the worsted but that may change if there is sufficient interest. To tease us we have planned to put in a 90% wool/ 10% silk yarn to help us make the transition from winter to spring to summer. There will be lots of patterns to choose from. More news to come as the packages arrive....
